DoH REVEALS OVER 1,000 ABORTIONS ON 14-YEAR-OLD GIRLS
Due to a request under the Freedom of Information Act, the Department of Health (DoH) has disclosed that in the calendar year 2003, there were 1023 abortions performed on 14 year olds and 148 for those under 14. The DoH had previously refused to release this information which was additionally requested by Student LifeNet.
Patrick Leahy, Director of Student LifeNet commented:
'These horrifying statistics will clearly be of great concern to parents across the country. In some cases, due to government guidelines, these extremely young girls could have obtained abortions without parental knowledge. Yet again, the government shows no concern for the welfare of students.
'Student LifeNet is also deeply concerned about the impact abortion has on younger students - particularly since they are less likely to understand the ethical issues at stake.
'Furthermore, the Department of Health still refuses to inform the public about the exact number of abortions on 11, 12, and 13-year-olds. We dred to think what they could be hiding.'
