STUDENT LIFENET WELCOMES PRO-CHOICE CHANGE OF HEART
Britain’s largest private abortion provider, Marie Stopes International, has joined Michael Howard’s call for the abortion time-limit to be lowered by 4 weeks to 20 weeks. The statement was reported in yesterday’s Sunday Times.
‘We are delighted that Marie Stopes has joined pro-life groups and leading politicians in calling for a reduction in the time limit,’ said Patrick Leahy, director of Student LifeNet. ‘It is good to see they have the humility to admit that they have been wrong in the past on abortions above twenty weeks.
‘However, they still remain out of touch with public opinion. Contrary to their protestations the majority of the public don’t support a reduction to 20 weeks. According to a Sunday Express/NOP world poll, 52% of the public supporting a change want the limit to be lowered to 15 weeks or under.
‘Those refusing to back a change to the current abortion law, Tony Blair included, are looking increasingly isolated and inhumane. They arrogantly fail to acknowledge the humanity of the unborn child.
‘Meanwhile the National Union of Students remains in cloud-cuckoo land by campaigning for further liberalisation of the abortion law. A YouGov poll showed that only 3% of the public are on their side.’
