MARIE STOPES LATE ABORTION STUDY IS ‘PSEUDO-SCIENTIFIC’
Student LifeNet is concerned that today’s published research on late abortions by Marie Stopes International is ‘pseudo-scientific’.
Patrick Leahy, Director of Student LifeNet and Cambridge University social science student stated:
‘We have a large number of concerns with the study’s methodology. The sample size of just over 100 women is very small and it would be extremely surprising if the obtained results were demographically representative and statistically significant.
‘Marie Stopes make no mention of whether the study’s results and sample were reliable. They conspicuously fail to mention any of the results from their questionnaire data – or, for that matter, any statistics whatsoever. They even fail to state who the study’s authors were and what (if any) journal this research is being published in.
‘The only “results” they do mention in their press release are patronising and tautological. Vacuous statements such as “Most women thought long and hard” and “Most women reported a combination of factors influencing their decision” are trivial truisms.
‘This pseudo-scientific study only serves to patronise women as a whole. Even if the public do not appreciate its flaws, we are confident that the Department of Health will’.
