STUDENT LIFENET APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR
The student based pro-life group ‘Student LifeNet’ has appointed a new Director. Michael Down, who previously served on the executive committee, has taken over from Patrick Leahy.
An International Politics student at Aberystwyth, 18-year-old Michael is keen to address many of the important issues surrounding abortion and embryonic stem cell research at this crucial time for pro-life campaigning.
Michael Down, Director of Student Lifenet commented today:
’I am delighted to be continuing the influential work that Patrick achieved with Student LifeNet. Abortion and other pro-life issues receive more media attention today than ever before, it is essential that we continue to be the driving force behind the wave of pro-life public opinion within the student world.
‘One of my first campaigns as leader will be to help increase the number of MPs signing early day motion number 2379 – which calls on the government to set up a joint committee of both Houses with a few to demanding pro-life changes to the existing abortion law.
‘Student LifeNet calls on students up and down the country to write to both their home and university constituency MPs that they sign this EDM immediately. It already has an amazing 130 signatories and we look forward to seeing this number potentially double.
‘Additionally, I will continue the work of Patrick in stopping extremist pro-abortion organisations from manipulating students’ unions into supporting pro-abortion policies. In many cases this is illegal and must be put to an end. I look forward to co-operating with other pro-life groups in this respect.’
