ONE HUNDRED UNDER-18 UK STUDENTS A MONTH UNDERGO THEIR SECOND ABORTION
Student LifeNet was shocked to learn that a hundred teenagers a month are having their second abortion. 1,316 teenagers under the age of 18 are believed to have had their second abortion, 90 of those are thought to have had a third.
Michael Down, Director of student LifeNet said this today in a statement:
‘These alarming statistics show that student abortion is at a worrying level. Despite this figure, under-18 abortions in the UK have fallen by more than 10%- but the number of student abortions is still far too high.
‘The Department of Health refused to give figures of teenage mothers who had had more than three Abortions, claiming that this was due to confidentiality restrictions. This is very hard to believe as all abortion forms are coded for the very purpose of allowing data like this to be published. Individual mothers are untraceable from broad figures indicating national data like these. The Department of Health is seriously hindering the open debate that is so urgently needed on the issue of abortion by restricting access to these figures.
‘Ultimately, the data we are given shows neglect for the seriousness of both teenage pregnancy and of abortion. We will continue to stress the importance of tighter legislation in the fight against the termination of unwanted children.’
